William "Bill" Mckinley Brader

William “Bill” McKinley Brader, 97 of Prosser, died Tuesday, April 14, 2015 at Willow Springs Care and Rehabilitation in Yakima.
Bill, the youngest of five children, was born in Ralston, OK, to Fred Carl and Nora (Lawson) Brader on October 18, 1917. His early years were spent in OK, TX and WA where he graduated from Toppenish High School in 1936. Bill served in the Army Air Corps, Dec 1941-Nov 1945 as a flight instructor attaining the rank of 1st Lt. On April 8, 1942, he married Laura Schultz in Wichita Falls, TX .
Bill was a life member of the American Legion Post #20. The American Legion was always an important part of his life. He attended Dept. Conventions as a delegate from the local post for many years. Bill was elected Washington Dept. Commander for 1973-1974. He was a member and past Chef De Gare of 40 & 8 #134 and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #2647.
In 1949, Bill’s application to the Northern Pacific Railroad was accepted and he purchased 80 acres in the Roza Irrigation Project. The land was cleared of sagebrush to be ready for water delivery in 1950. The first crops were alfalfa, sugar beets, potatoes and beans. From the late 1950’s and early 1960’s the farm was leased out while Bill was the first manager of the Prosser Bowl built by the American Legion Post #20. In the mid 1960’s, he returned to farming. Little by little the entire acreage was planted to several varieties of apples. Bill served on the Board of Directors of the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service for three terms and served as Chairman his last term.
Bill is survived by his wife, Laura of seventy-three years; children, Beverley Labusohr (Gary) of Pullman, James Brader (Kay) and Lori Still (Dan), both of Prosser; grandchildren, Thor Osborn (Julia), Jeffrey Still, Jonathan Still (Jodee), Jean Labusohr, Heather Atterberry (Andrew) and Tamara Brader; and great-grandchildren, Haley Labusohr, Aiden and Adalyn Atterberry, and Kyleigh, Delaney, Courtney and Justin Still.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Carl and Fred; sisters, Rachel and Claudia; and grandson, William Brader Labusohr in 2011.
A viewing will be held from 3-7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at Prosser Funeral Home. A Graveside Service, with full Military Honors, will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at the Prosser Cemetery. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the Messiah Lutheran Church, 801 Luther Lane, in Prosser with a reception following.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Bill’s memory be made to the Prosser Eagles Toy Drive, PO Box 669, Prosser, WA 99350 or to the donor’s charity of choice.
