Thomas Christopher Starr Mears

d. March 16, 2015

Thomas Christopher Starr Mears, age 16 of Prosser, entered into rest on March 16, 2015 at his home in Grandview. He was born on June 9, 1998 to Michael Allen Mears and Kimberly Anne Starr in Prosser. He was currently a Junior at Prosser High School and was attending the YVCC, Grandview Campus as part of the Running Start Program.

Tom was very gifted as an aspiring writer and artist. He had a quick wit and brought laughter to those around him. He loved puns and was a proud nerd. He was a member of Prosser High School SWAT (Students With Aptitude in Technology) team and for several years volunteered as a sound and light technician for The Miss Prosser Pageant and the Prosser Conservatory of Theatre for Children.

He enjoyed spending time with his family. Every Friday night, Tom and his dad got together with “the gaming group” and played Role Playing Games where his humor and imagination shined. Gaming was something Tom thoroughly enjoyed. Tom and his mom had a “date” most Tuesdays when they would cook dinner together, catch up, and play games and listen to his favorite music. One of his favorite memories was traveling across the country with his mother and stepfather, L.J., to New York. More recently he became passionate about anime and manga and he started to play the bass.

Tom had a heart for animals, especially cats, even though he was allergic to them. He and his dad rescued three baby kittens abandoned by their mother and became “Momma Cat” to them, bottle feeding them and nurturing them into adulthood. Because of his love for anime, he and his dad called the kittens the Dragonballs.

Tom is survived by his parents, Mike Mears of Grandview and Kimberly Starr and L.J. Da Corsi of Prosser; his brother, Timothy Mears of Cheney, WA; his stepsisters Anne Da Corsi and Christine Da Corsi Valcarcel and their families, of Richland, WA; and his grandparents, Pat and Jim Mears of Prosser, Irwin Starr of Sarasota, Florida and Eileen Starr and John Douglas of Spokane. He was preceded in death by his great grandmothers, Hanna (Granny) Haney and Lillian Mears; and step-grandmother, Charlie Valentine.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at the Covenant Presbyterian Church in Prosser. Following the service a potluck lunch will be served.
