Sylvia “Lucille” Oldfield, age 85, entered into rest on December 19, 2013 at Sheffield Manor in Prosser. She was born on September 9, 1928 in Goldendale, Washington to Cecil and Alma Gladys (Dingmon) Myers.
In 1930, the family moved to Toppenish where she was raised and educated. Lucille began working as a legal secretary for Perry Woodall prior to graduating from Toppenish High School in 1946. She attended the College of Puget Sound until her marriage to Ralph Oldfield April 24, 1948 in Toppenish. The couple lived in Toppenish, Sunnyside, Pasco and Outlook before moving to Prosser in 1959. Early in their marriage she was a stay at home mom. Later, she worked as a legal secretary for Herb Davis and Dwight Halstead in Prosser. She worked at the Benton County Treasurers Office for eleven years until retiring.
Lucille was an active member of the Prosser United Methodist Church for over 50 years and volunteered with numerous organizations including HOBBS, Jubilee Ministries, Camp Fire Girls, Boy Scouts.
Lucille and Ralph were avid square dancers as members of the Goofer Hoofers, Rythmn Rounders and Lower Valley Square Dancers. For several years, they were advisors for the Teen Twirlers. Square Dancing provided them with friends from near and far.
They traveled to Europe and Australia as well as throughout the U.S. by R.V. after retiring.
Lucille was an organizing member of Desert Wells Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, Queen Creek, AZ.
Lucille is survived by her husband of 65 years, Ralph of Prosser; her daughter, Janet Church & husband Allan of Walla Walla, WA; her sons, Randy Oldfield of Newport, WA and Timothy Oldfield of Chelan; her sister, June Kitting of Toppenish; her brothers, Vernon Myers and wife Georgia of Tacoma and Dale Myers of Olympia; her sister-in-law, Phyllis Williamson, Pasco, WA; 3 grandchildren, Shara Forrister and husband John, Andrew Church, and Shayne Oldfield and wife Deb; 4 great-grandchildren and a large extended family of neices, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Lila Myers; and her son, Gary Oldfield in 2008.
Private family graveside services will be at the Prosser Cemetery with a Celebration of Life Service at the Prosser United Methodist Church later in January.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Prosser United Methodist Church, Alzheimer's Research Association, Lower Valley Hospice, Jubilee Ministries or a charity of individual choice.
