STEVEN M ELSENBARTH

June 18, 1956 — December 7, 2024

PROSSER

Steven Eisenbarth was born in Pasco to Jane and Doug Eisenbarth in 1956. Steve spent his primary years in the Tri-Cities before moving to Prosser in 1968 at the age of 12. Steve was blessed with many friends throughout his years in Prosser. He enjoyed acting and was involved in several plays at PHS. Steve graduated from PHS in 1974 and throughout his life he was proud to be an alum of Prosser High School.

After graduation Steve spent a couple years at Columbia Basin College and then transferred to Washington State University. He met many life-long friends during his time in Pullman. Steve enjoyed his time at WSU so much that he acquired the nickname Smiley, which became his moniker for the rest of his life. He had a sense of humor that was unmatched. At WSU, Steve studied landscape architecture and became a highly regarded landscaper in the greater Yakima Valley. After graduation from WSU in 1979, Steve returned to Prosser and started Desert Valley Landscapes. He and the business thrived for many years. As a designer, Steve was an artist, he and his crew created many beautiful yards throughout the area.

In 1991, Steve was blessed with the birth of his daughter BreAnna, who became the light of his life. BreAnna was a huge source of pride and joy for the remainder of his life. Smiley’s nieces brought him great joy also. BreAnna and her cousins have many fond memories of spending nights at his house in the “bird nest” of blankets and pillows that he would make for them. He would smile so big and you could see the love on his face when they walked in the room.

In 2007, Steve suffered a stroke and became disabled. He continued to live in Prosser at his home with the help of health care workers. They spent many years caring for Steve and have become extended members of our family. These people cared for and were very respectful of Steve and are deeply appreciated.

Smiley spent the last 17 years enjoying friends and family who would visit him. He loved his yard and his flowers. His yard continued to impress as it was maintained by some of his former crew from Desert Valley Landscapes. He continued to have a green thumb and was able to grow several indoor plants that few others could. Smiley died at his home December 7th, 2024.

Steve is survived by his mother Jane Brown, stepfather Vernon Brown, daughter BreAnna Beierle, sister Rhonda Corbin and her husband Chuck, brother Brian Eisenbarth and his wife Catreece, nieces Alexa and Carly Eisenbarth and stepsister Kim Huston. Steve is also survived by many friends, extended family, caregivers, former employees and neighbors. He was deeply loved.
