At the age of 84, Sarah Margaret Baumgartel of Grandview passed away on July 12, 2015.
The tenth of thirteen children, Sarah Margaret Evans was born July 23, 1930 in Albertville, AL to Bertha Cleo and Martin Luther Evans.
She attended Birmingham Baptist Hospital School of Nursing where she received her registered nursing diploma. Her practice requirements were fulfilled at Charity Hospital of New Orleans, LA.
Sarah met and married Robert George Baumgartel on December 21, 1952. Her early years were devoted to raising their five children as Bob's promotions took their young family across the United States, eventually landing them in Washington.
Sarah held several hospital positions before settling at Hillcrest Nursing Home in Grandview where she ultimately became the Director of Nursing.
She was an active member of Bethany Community Church, formerly Bethany Presbyterian in Grandview, where she served in numerous leadership positions, led Bible studies and organized afterschool programs for children. Sarah was generous with her time and her talents and especially enjoyed sharing her love of reading through her volunteer work in the schools.
She enjoyed Novella Club, Book Club, The “Never Stay" At Home Group and her weekly lunches with friends.
Her farm provided ample space for her love of gardening which included a huge selection of vegetables and many varieties of magnificent roses.
Her supreme pride and joy were her children and grandchildren. Sarah leapt at every opportunity to spend time with them and to be an active participant in their lives.
Sarah is survived by her five children: Mary Jane Betts of Bothell, WA, William Robert Baumgartel of Frisco, TX, John Evans Baumgartel, of Madison CT, Margaret Ann "Peggy" Cook of Southlake TX, Susan Lee Viviano of Towaco, NJ; 14 grandchildren; one great-grand son; sisters Mary Lucy Wilson of Helena, AL, and Mildred Duke of Guntersville, AL.
Sarah is preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Robert George Baumgartel.
Funeral services will be held at Bethany Community Church (formerly Bethany Presbyterian),
