Ronnie Lee Perkins, 61, of Prosser, died peacefully at his home on March 2, 2015. He was born on December 7, 1953 in Shattuck, Oklahoma to Maxie Leroy and Eilene (Russell) Perkins. His early childhood was spent in Wichita, Kansas until the age of four when the family relocated to California. The family spent numerous years traveling throughout California picking fruit before settling in Sebastopol, California in 1964. Ron attended Analy High School where he met Gwendolyn Marie Galupe. Gwen and Ron became the best of friends, later a couple and finally husband and wife on July 1, 1976. They made their home in Santa Rosa, California until moving to Oregon for a short time. They made Prosser their home in 1980. Throughout the years Ron worked as a sheet rocker and in the orchards picking fruit and pruning trees with his family. Ron also owned and operated Perkins Construction Company.
Ron was an avid collector and hunter of treasures, especially eclectic items and tools. He started at a young age collecting bottles, many of which he still has. He enjoyed making jewelry, playing golf and was an amazing story teller. He also enjoyed playing softball, darts, and was a world champion shuffle board player. Most of all, he loved socializing with friends and spending time with his family. He was a kind and loving son, husband, father, grandfather and friend. Known to many as Rotten Ron and Papa Ron, he loved his friends and had many honorary kids that he loved also.
Ron is survived by his wife, Gwen, of Prosser; his son, Cole Perkins and wife, Erin of Bonney Lake; his daughter, Angie Perkins and husband, Jesse Hunter of Truckee, CA; his mother, Eilene Perkins; his sister, Pam Barnhart and husband, Charlie; and his brother, Dave Perkins and wife, Diane, all of Prosser; aunt, Robbie Jo Perkins of Grandview, his grandchildren, Samuel and Emily Perkins and Gwen and Alex Hunter; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his father-in-law, Salvador Vasquez of Santa Rosa, CA, Gwen’s family, cousins, uncles, aunts and numerous extended family in Oklahoma, Kentucky, and Indiana.
Ron was preceded in death by his son, Jesse Lee Perkins; his father, Maxie Leroy Perkins; his uncle, Lewis Perkins; and his mother-in-law, Pauline Vasquez.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 7th at Bethel Church in Prosser. Viewing will be held at Prosser Funeral Home on Friday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the donor’s favorite charity.
