Richard Kenneth Boll stepped out of this world into the arms of his loving Savior on Sunday December 15th, 2024, 5 days after his 87th birthday.
Richard was born in St. Maries Idaho on December 10th, 1937, to Ken and Anita (Craig) Boll. Richard and his siblings were raised in Grand Coulee, WA where Richard graduated from Grand Coulee high school in 1956. He attended Central Washington University majoring in botany.
Richard was a Navy veteran and very proud of his service to his country. He served as a corpsman aboard the aircraft carrier USS Hancock during the Vietnam era. He served in the Navy from 1961-1967 including active duty and naval reserve.
For his life’s work, Richard worked as a Lab Technician for the USDA at the Washington State University I.A.R.E.C (Irrigated Agriculture Research and Extension Center) in Prosser, WA. It was there that he met his wife Freda. They were married August 16th, 1980, and on August 20th, 1982, they welcomed their daughter Carla into the world.
After his retirement from the research station, Richard worked for a short period of time as the director of the Salvation Army food bank in Grandview, WA which he thoroughly enjoyed. Richard and Freda were also active members of the Salvation Army church where Richard was a faithful Sunday school teacher.
Richard enjoyed visiting the ocean, mainly the Oregon Coast, where he would beachcomb for agates which he polished in a rock tumbler that he built. He also enjoyed hiking in the mountains and identifying various wildflowers. His other hobbies included rockhounding, wood working, reading and playing mahjong and solitaire on the computer.
Richard was an active member of Remnant House church (formally Prosser Community Church) for the last 23 years. He was a prayer warrior and often got up early in the morning to pray and read the Bible.
At the end of 2020, Richard was diagnosed with vascular dementia and spent the last 2 years of his life living at The Orchards, an assisted living and memory care facility in Grandview, WA. Freda would take him to church and family events until it became too difficult for him to get into the car.
Richard is survived by his wife of 44 years Freda, their daughter Carla (Chris) Friberg their children Benjamin and Kate, children from a previous marriage, daughter Marie Calzada and son Michael (Michelle) Boll, sister Patricia Stevens, brother Robert (MaryAnn) Boll, and sister Laurel Gonzalo, in addition to several grandchildren, great grandchildren, niece and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ken and Anita Boll, daughter from a previous marriage Michelle Porterfield, and brothers-in-law Bill Stevens and Val Gonzalo.
A memorial service for Richard will be held on Saturday February 1st, 2025, at Remnant House (5305 Hicks Rd Grandview, WA) at 11:30 am. Memorial contributions in Richard's honor can be made to Remnant House Church.
