Raymond L. Pinkal, 87, entered into rest on October 20, 2014 at Toppenish Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center. He was born on October 23, 1926 to Adolph and Lenora (Ochsner) Pinkal in Torrington, Wyoming where he was raised and educated. Ray was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. He enlisted in the military during war time and was in boot camp when the war ended. He then served in occupied Japan after the war. After his discharge in 1946 he lived in Yakima and became a journeyman carpenter. He worked for Howatt Construction until 1963 when he established Pinkal Construction and went into business for himself. He built commercial buildings, service stations and homes and he installed septic and water systems. He retired in 1976. In 1987, he moved to Benton City where he lived until 2009 when he moved to Prosser.
Raymond was a life member of the VFW Post #379 in Yakima and the American Legion, Post #115 in Benton City. His grandchildren gave him great joy.
Raymond is survived by his son, James Ray Pinkal and wife, Delores and his daughter; Barbara Nave, all of Benton City; his grandchildren, Donald Pinkal and wife, Jessica of Moses Lake and Julie Cravens and husband, Cody of Benton City; his great-grandchildren, Jace Cravens and Aubree Pinkal; his sisters, Ruby Eckstrom and husband, Bob of Silver Bay, Minnesota and Esther Jolly and husband Lee of Tracy, California; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, George; and his sisters, Martha, Ida, Dorothy, Betty and Elsie.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 25, 2014 at Prosser Funeral Home. Visitation is scheduled for Thursday and Friday from 3:00 to 7:00 PM and on Saturday from 9:00 AM until the time of service.
