Peggy Jean Miller

d. January 2, 2015

Peggy Jean Miller was born 88 years ago in Weeping Water, Nebraska on August 17, 1926 to her parents, Sterling and Mata (Engelkemier) Amick. She could not believe that she was that old. She was called home to heaven to the Lord on January 2, 2015 with her daughters and pets by her side.
Peggy loved growing up in her small town where she took tap and ballet dancing lessons. She loved doing it. Her teacher had her help teach lessons to other students. She was a Campfire Girl, cheerleader and baseball player.
She worked since she was 12 years old as an usher, waitress and telephone operator. During WWII, she worked at a plant as Rosie the Riveter. She and her dad picked peaches in Colorado after the war.
She visited a cousin in Los Angeles and decided to stay. After various jobs, she decided to work at Yosemite National Park. There she met her future husband, Curtis. They were married in Torrance, California on November 8, 1950 and the couple were later blessed with three girls and one boy. Curtis was a teacher and park ranger in the summers. One summer, in North Rim Grand Canyon, Peggy worked at a lookout tower, which she loved. She enjoyed the summers at North Rim, Olympic and Glacier National Park.

The family moved to Stanwood, Washington from Fontana, California in 1967. They moved to a farm in Prosser in 1973 where they raised sheep, cattle and alfalfa for 42 years. Peggy enjoyed her life on the farm.

Peggy was a devoted mother to her four children. She helped raise her one grandchild, Mark L. Miller. They were pals. She taught Mark to read, write, do crossword puzzles and play games when he asked her to show him how. They needed three hands to play pinochle with Aunt Jackie. They taught him to play and to this day, she could never beat him.

She loved reading, gardening, crosswords puzzles, knitting and traveling. Her pride and joy were her daughters, son and grandson. There were a lot of ups and downs but there was also a lot of laughter, fun and adventures. She had a wonderful sense of humor.

Peggy is survived by her daughters, Christina A. Miller and son, Mark; Lynn Hall and son-in-law Dana; and Jacquelyn Miller, all of Prosser; her son,, Kirk A. Miller of South Carolina; grandson, Mark Miller and his wife, Rebecca of St. Louis, MO and their son, Zachary B. Miller who great-grandma met in October. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Helen (Delano) Amick and Janice (Sterling) Amick of Weeping Water, NE, Marie Natermus of Federal Way and Martha (Pete) Bonofiglio of CA; brother-in-law, Earl (Dot) Miller of Seattle; her two dogs, Joey and Maggie; her cat, Postey, who balanced himself on her walker to keep her walking; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis in 2003, her parents, Sterling and Mata Amick; her four brothers, Vern, Charles, Sterling and Delano; sister-in-law, Muriel (Vern) Amick; and brother-in-law, Kenny Miller.

The family would like to thank the staff and caregivers of Sheffield Manor of Prosser and Lower Valley Hospice for taking good care of their mother, Peggy. Private family services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Outwest Pet Rescue (424 Wine Country Road in Prosser).
