Othel Rodell Butler, age 91 of Prosser, entered into rest on March 21, 2012 at Prosser Memorial Hospital. He was born on June 24, 1920 in Ainsworth, Nebraska to Wesley Philomen and Cleo Cordia (Campbell) Butler. He attended school in Wood Lake, Nebraska until the eighth grade. In 1936, he moved to Sand Point, Idaho and worked in a Pole Camp making cedar poles. He moved to Richland, Washington in 1936 and was drafted into the Army in June, 1941 during World War II. He served in the 59th Armored Tank Battalion in Africa, Italy, France, Germany, Battle of Anzco, Normandy Invasion and Battle of the Bulge until the war ended in October, 1945.
Othel and Geogette Leona Arrestouilh were married on November 17, 1945 in Pasco, Washington and made their home in Prosser. He was employed by Bleyhl Farm Service for 34 years, retiring as manager of the Sunnyside store in 1982. He and Leona continued to make their home on a small ranch in Prosser until moving into town in 1996.
Othel enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling and gardening. He also enjoyed volunteering in church activities and Jubilee Ministries at the Food Bank. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus
Othel is survived by his wife, Leona; his children, Linda Bourgeois of Hillsboro, Oregon, Laura Menke and her husband, Michael and David Butler and his wife, Yvonne, all of Selah, Washington; his brothers, Wesley Butler and wife, Bonnie, Rolland “Pete” Butler and wife, Donna and Burtis Butler and wife, Charlotte; his grandchildren, Aaron and Nicole Bourgeois; and great-grandchildren, Michaela, Rhett and Sarah.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Alta May, and his brothers, Homer, in WWII, Chester and Alton.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 Noon on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Prosser. Concluding services and burial will follow at the Prosser Cemetery. Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 6:00 PM on Tuesday, March 27 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Visitation is scheduled for Monday, March 26 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM and Tuesday, March 27 from 1:00 until 4:00 PM at Prosser Funeral Home. Prosser Funeral Home and Crematory is handling the arrangements.
