Mickie Sue Sybouts

d. December 6, 2014

Mickie Sue Sybouts, age 80, born on June 20, 1934 to Walter and Lora (McDonald) Bledsoe in Claude, TX, succumbed to a long battle with cancer and passed away Saturday, December 6, 2014 at her home in Prosser, WA.

The Bledsoe family moved to the Yakima Valley in 1943. Mickie attended and graduated from Moxee High School in 1952. She married the love of her life, Gerald Sybouts, in November of 1952 and recently celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary.

Mickie was a tireless worker, having worked with her brother, Jack, at his butcher shop, where she would wrap meat, and at Jack’s restaurant. Mickie also worked at a 5 and 10 cent store where she would greet and assist customers with her always present smile and welcoming personality.

Jerry and Mickie purchased a farm in Prosser, WA in 1966 where they raised hops and grapes. Mickie was a true partner on the farm, as she would do whatever needed to be completed to run the farm successfully. She would take care of payroll, and even dried hops during harvest. With her efforts, they won Hop Grower of the Year in 1977.

Mickie had many talents. She and three friends formed a singing group named Ridiculii. They made their own costumes, wrote their own songs, and played ukuleles. They performed and entertained many people at various functions throughout the valley. She would spend many hours knitting sweaters, crocheting many baby blankets and Afghans for friends and family. She loved to cook for her family, and her holiday meals were anticipated and enjoyed by friends and family for years. Her generosity with those she loved, and those she knew needed assistance, was one of her truly remarkable gifts.

Mickie (Tex, Mom, Grandma) will be truly missed by her husband and adoring family. We love you with all our hearts, but know you are in a better place with the Lord, free of the pain you endured for so many years.

Mickie was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Lora, and her siblings, Nella, Jack, Frank, and Ruth. She is survived by her husband, Jerry, daughter Nancy (Larry) Kukes, son Mark (Karen) Sybouts, and daughter Linda (Roy) Brownlee, six grandchildren, Scott (Bradi) Kukes, Bryan Kukes, Courtney (Sean) Mullen, Nicholas (Jessica) Long, Nicole Sybouts, and Kaylynn Long; five great-grandchildren, Kylee and Marley Kukes, Winter and Willow Mullen, and Emmalyn Long; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 7:00 PM on Friday, December 12th at Prosser Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM followed by a reception on Saturday, December 13th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Prosser. Concluding services and burial will follow at the Prosser Cemetery.
