Mary Louise Juzeler, 91, longtime Prosser resident, entered into rest on June 5, 2014 at Kadlec Medical Center in Richland, WA.
Mary was born on January 12, 1923 in Colton, Washington where she was raised and educated. She was one of seven children born to Frank and Doris (Semler) Becker. Mary was the Valedictorian of Colton High School’s class of 1941. She continued her education at Washington State College and graduated in 1945 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Home Economics. Prosser became her home in 1945, when she began teaching home economics at both the Junior and Senior High School level. This is when she met her future husband, William H. Juzeler, whom she married in Colton on December 22, 1947. Mary spent several years being a full-time mom to her children, Judy, Vicki, Jeanie and Bill while earning her Elementary Teaching Certification from Central Washington College. She then began teaching at Riverview Elementary School before spending most of her teaching career at Heights Elementary. She retired in 1985.
Mary was a life-long member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and a member of the Altar Society. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Red Hat Society, Meridian Club, and Retired Teachers Association. She also served on the board of Jubilee Ministries and volunteered in the Prosser School District. She enjoyed sewing, reading, traveling, and gardening. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Mary is survived by her children, Vicki Juzeler, Jeanie Harris (husband, Dick) and Bill Juzeler (wife, Sally) all of Prosser; her sisters, Virginia Dahmen of Lewiston, Idaho and Lola Little-McCubbins of Port Angeles; and her brother, Ed Becker of Port Angeles. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Hannah Juzeler of Prosser, Megan Juzeler of Zillah, Rich Harris of Kennewick, and Christine (Lolli) Essary and her husband, Blake of Prosser; two great-grandchildren, Jenna and Lauryn Essary of Prosser; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Juzeler; infant daughter, Judy Juzeler; brother, Frank Becker Jr; and sisters, Delores Ann Bryant and Margaret Busch.
Recitation of the Rosary will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Tuesday, June 10th at 7:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 11th at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Concluding services and burial will follow in the Prosser Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made the Prosser Scholarship Foundation, Jubilee Ministries or Sacred Heart Catholic Church Building Fund.
