Louise Janice (Gemmill) Miller
March 2, 1935 – August 20, 2012

Louise Miller, of Prosser, Washington, passed away August 20, 2012 at Kadlec Hospital in Richland WA.

Louise was born in Ellensburg, WA on March 2, 1935 to Robert H. and Alice E. (Wahldahl) Gemmill. She attended school in Ellensburg and graduated. Louise then went on to pursue accounting at Columbia Basin College. While working as a teen in the Liberty Theatre, she met her future husband, Milt Miller. From that union five children were born.

In 1961 the family moved to Prosser. Louise was a school bus driver, homemaker, and enjoyed her children’s activities such as Prosser Swim Team, where she served as treasurer.

Louise’s bookkeeping skills and abilities were put to good use with the accounting firms of Boyd Olafson & Company, Warren Nelson, and Keith Sattler until her retirement.

For over 20 years, Louise was involved in the Benton County Historical Museum, first as a volunteer and then as the treasurer handling the different accounts and grant monies.

Louise found happiness in simple pleasures of life. She was an avid reader of many genres. She loved flowers and always surrounded her home with petunias, geraniums, and fuchsias. Through the years, Louise enjoyed walking, hiking, and swimming. For many years, Louise was a familiar face at the Prosser Farmer’s Market on Saturday mornings and more recently appreciated lunch with friends at the Prosser Senior Center. She was extremely fond of sports and had a particular fondness for the University of Washington Huskies and the Seattle Mariners.

Louise was a quiet, genteel woman, who loved her family very much, generously giving to them whenever she could. She loved barbeques with her family and especially burned hot dogs.

Louise is survived by her children, George and wife Tammie Miller of Prosser, Laurie Edgar of Auburn, WA, Daniel Miller of Las Vegas, NV, Jeffrey Miller of Prosser, and Jeanette Miller of Seattle, WA; sister, Jeanette Gemmill and brother, Larry Gemmill both of Ellensburg, WA; 19 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Alice Gemmill and her brother, Richard Gemmill.

A celebration of her life will be held on September 8, 2012. The place and time will be announced.
Memorial contributions may be made in her honor to The Benton County Historical Museum, PO Box 1407, Prosser, WA 99350.
