Jane Ann Vasquez, beloved mother, entered into rest on July 25, 2012 at Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland. She was the first of eleven children born to Arturo and Aurora Vasquez in Sunnyside where she was raised and educated. Jane and Mario Arevalo were married in Sunnyside in 1972. Jane graduated from Lee’s Beauty School and became a licensed beautician and cosmetologist in 1982. She worked at Thuy’s Hair Artistry in Grandview for twenty five years. She also graduated from Yakima Valley Community College and went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from Heritage College and earned her Master’s Degree in Social Work from Walla Walla University. She worked as a child therapist for the Yakima Valley Farm Worker’s Clinic in Grandview and Toppenish. Jane enjoyed gardening, traveling, loved her dogs, Sparky and Emma and her cat, Eve and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Jane is survived by her children, Melanie Arevalo (Danny Moreno), Stacy Zavala (Danny), Austin Arevalo (Stacy Olivarez) and Andrea Arevalo (Oscar Gutierrez); her fiancée, Toby Aleman of Alberta, Canada; her mother, Aurora Vasquez of Sunnyside; her brothers and sisters, Silvia De La Rosa (Paul) of California, Arturo Vasquez Jr. of Sunnyside, Mary Fisher (Steve) of Moses Lake, Nelli Muir (Bob) of Yakima, Lydia Alderman (Danny) of Medical lake, Dorie Arralde (Michael) of Seattle, Sandi Berggren (Fritz) of El Salvador, Jim Vasquez (Martha) of Seattle and Aurora Weddle (Todd) of Prosser; and eight grandchildren, Andrew Rodriguez, Amber Zavala, Alyssa Janae Rodriguez, Janae Zavala, Abby Zavala, Devin Zavala, Isabella Engel, Brielle Olivarez and one grandchild on the way; her former husband, Mario Arevalo of Sunnyside and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, Arturo G. Vasquez; brother, Rudy Vasquez; granddaughter, Alyssa Rodriguez; grandparents, Jose and Nicolaza Rubalcava, Julia Gonzalez and Miguel Vasquez; and nephew, Ralph Berggren.
Recitation of The Rosary will be held on Thursday, July 26 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Sunnyside at 6:00 PM. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 PM on Friday, July 27 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with burial and concluding services following at Lower Valley Memorial Gardens in Sunnyside. A luncheon will follow at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Visitation will be held at Prosser Funeral Home on Thursday from 12:00-3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial contributions be made at the Bank of America into the account of Jane Vasquez.
