Gerald “Jerry” Galliher, 68, of Prosser, went to be with his Lord and Savior on January 28, 2012 at Kadlec Medical Center in Richland.
He was born on November 16, 1943 in Pasco, Washington to Theodore “Ted” and June (Manuel) Galliher. He spent his early years in Walla Walla until the family moved to Prosser where he attended Prosser High School. Jerry then served in the U.S. Army from 1961-1964. He was stationed in Florida during the Bay of Pigs and later was sent to Germany to assist in the Berlin Crisis. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Prosser and worked at Van DeGraff Farms, and then went on to work as a mechanic at Twin City Foods. At age 25, Jerry was severely disabled at Prosser Bowl when the bowling alley exploded while he was inside. He later went on to own the Burger Factory. In 1985, Jerry married Alicia Rhynard, and they owned and operated the Family Tree Restaurant and car wash in Prosser.
Jerry served on the Prosser City Council for fourteen years, was a member of the Prosser Chamber of Commerce and a generous supporter of Prosser youth sports.
He loved bird watching in the backyard and got to the point where he knew several generations of bird families and who the bullies were. He enjoyed taking pictures of the squirrels stealing bird food from the feeders and watching the antics of the local hummingbirds.
Jerry enjoyed going to Kenos and drinking coffee with the “group” to solve world problems and keep up to date on the local gossip. Jerry had a sweet tooth and enters into rest with some sort of piece of candy. He was a sharing man and would share his treats with his daughter Tammy’s four legged 200 lb. St. Bernard “Baby.”
His constant companion was his little dog, practically a fur child, “Maddy” the Chihuahua/Pomeranian mix. He also shared treats with her, like ice cream bars and chocolate. She didn’t like to be out of his sight and worried about him when she couldn’t see where he was.
Jerry loved going to watch his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events when his health permitted. He also enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, bowling, collecting sports memorabilia, playing cards and games, gambling and playing poker with his buddies. Jerry competed professionally in trapshooting competitions and enjoyed Thursday evening time with friends at the Prosser Gun Club.
He is survived by his wife Alicia Galliher, child Dusty Rhea and husband Richard of Jolon California. He is also survived by his children David Galliher and wife Nancy of West Richland, Tammy Feaken and husband David of Prosser Washington, children of first wife Donna (Hagarty) Heintz; brother Ted Galliher and wife Betty of Yuma, AZ.; three grandchildren, Brecken, Maya and Emma Galliher; three nieces, Cherie and Michelle Galliher and Niki Wallick; and his beloved dog “Maddy.” He was preceded in death by his parents.
We’ll miss you, love you, and always remember…you made us smile.
