Donald Richard Springer, age 85 of Prosser, entered into rest on November 29, 2011 at Richland Health Care Center. He was born on October 26, 1926 in Kelso, Washington to Clenton and Francis (Read) Springer. He was raised and educated in Deer Park, Washington. After graduating from high school he enlisted in the US Navy and served during WWII and Korean War. After his discharge he attended the University of Washington and worked at Boeing.
He met his future wife, Ruth Ann Marie “Penny” Springer in April 1950 at a dance and they were married in Spokane on March 8, 1952. The US Navy took them to California, the Great lakes, IL and then back to San Diego. Upon his discharge in February 1955, they lived in Seattle, Colbert, Clayton, Deep Park, Oroville, Yakima and finally Prosser where they continued to make their home. All four children graduated from Prosser High School.
After retirement, Don and Penny embarked on a genealogy project. They enjoyed traveling, researching and interviewing relatives. They especially enjoyed trips to Nevada and the casinos.
Donald is survived by his two sons, Steve (Bev) Springer and their children, Chris, Greg and Jenny and Dale Springer and his children, Quentin and Dalen, all of Yakima; two daughters, Cindy (Paul) Cross and their children Nate, Sarah and Laura of Richland and Susan (Joel) Stephens and their children, Jeff, Adam and Jessica and Jennifer, Brittney, Courtney, Amy, Jordan and Tyler of St. Johnsbury, Vermont. Donald is survived in total by eleven grandchildren, six step-grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, Avery, Amelia, Aiden, Hannah and Lelia.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Penny Springer.
