David Henry Bayne, age 82, passed away on July 1, 2022 at Prestige Care and Rehabilitation in Sunnyside. Dave was born on January 26, 1940 in Pendleton, Oregon to Glen Bayne and Henrietta (Vollmer) Bayne. He grew up in Walla Walla and Prosser, Washington. Dave attended Prosser High School where he was a letterman in football, basketball and baseball and was elected President of his senior class. He was also elected Governor of the Boy's State Leadership Conference in Olympia. Dave graduated from Prosser High School in 1958 and went on to play basketball at Whitworth College in Spokane where he earned a bachelor's degree in History.
Dave met the love of his life, Irene (Campbell) Bayne, at Whitworth College. The couple married on September 4, 1960 in Spokane at the Northwood Presbyterian Church. They moved to Bloomington, Minnesota where Dave worked as an executive for Cominco Ltd. The couple returned to Prosser in 1971, where Dave owned and operated a wheat ranch with his father and his brother Doug Bayne. He also sold crop insurance at Chapman-Lampson in Prosser. Dave was a member and officer of the Rotary Club, an officer in the Edgar E. Whitehead Foundation, an officer in Educational Service District 123, a volunteer Horse Heaven fireman, a coach for his children's sports teams and served as a youth group leader, Sunday school teacher and church elder for several years.
Dave enjoyed telling stories, spending time with family and friends, drawing and painting, rooting on local sports teams, singing, and playing the guitar. He also sang in the choirs of the Prosser First Presbyterian Church, the Prosser United Methodist Church and the Grandview Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Dave is survived by his sister, Mary Hunziker (R.J.) of Prosser; his brother, Doug L. Bayne (Karen) of Walla Walla; his son, Todd Bayne (Laurie) and their son, Dr. David B. Bayne (Jamie) of Mesa, Arizona; daughter, Suzanne Colgren (John) of Prosser; and son, Ryan Bayne (Samantha) and their sons, Flynn, Nash and Corbin of Seattle. He is also survived by many friends, including his very special friend, Vera Cone. Dave was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Irene, and by his parents, Glen and Henrietta Bayne.
A private family graveside service will be held at the Prosser Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, July 18th at the Grandview Nazarene Church (500 North Elm Street in Grandview).
