David Alan Niemi, 68 of Prosser, WA, died March 19, 2014 at Sun Terrace in Prosser.

David was born on July 1, 1945 in Dana Point, CA to Charles and Shirley Niemi.

He attended Prosser High School and set numerous track and field records in the Decathlon and finished 3rd in his class, the class of ‘63. He continued his education at the University of Washington for three years as a member of Phi Gamma Delta. He then married Kathleen Hileman of Prosser, WA, and switched universities to finish his Bachelors degree of Economics at the Washington State University.

After acquiring his degree, David secured a position in the Management Training Program with Wells Fargo Bank and moved his family to San Jose, CA; where he worked in the San Jose Branch of Wells Fargo. David was also a soldier in the California National Guard and during this time his unit was called by Governor Ronald Reagan to guard the “People’s Park” in Berkley during the riots. Also during this time his son; Heath Niemi was born in Santa Clara, CA in 1970.

Soon thereafter, David’s father became ill and David moved his family back to Prosser in order to farm and keep the family farm going. His daughter, Tricia Niemi was born in 1972.

David Niemi is survived by his son and spouse, COL Heath and Michele Niemi; along with his granddaughters Kimber and Kendall of Southern Pines, NC. His daughter, Tricia Niemi of Portland, Oregon; his sister and spouse Cheryl and Vern Wiseman of North Bend, WA; and brother Paul Niemi of Spokane, WA; along with numerous cousins and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Shirley and Charles Niemi.

A memorial will be held on June 14 at the Prosser Cemetery.
