Bill Pleake fell asleep in death on Saturday, December 31, 2012, surrounded by family and friends. Bill was born on December 19, 1931, in Council Bluffs, IA. He was the third of nine children born to William Pleake and Margaret Grothier.
Bill met the love of his life, Jeanne Brown in Ellensburg, WA and were married in 1954. They made their home in Ellensburg where their first two children, David and Mark, were born. Their third son, William III was born in Prosser and after a brief move to Federal Way; the family returned to Prosser and finally had their baby girl, Jodi.
Bill owned the Union 76 Station on 7th Street where the new fire station now stands. Many people have fond memories of the Pleake’s Union 76. Bill & Jeanne owned and operated several local businesses including; Texaco, Union 76, Sears, Lil’ Stinker Septic, Teens to Queens, and the Sub Hut Restaurant. Bill was a respected mechanic, general contractor, and bus driver for the Prosser School District. He will always be remembered for his generosity, willingness to help others, and always ready to have a great conversation.
Bill was an active Jehovah’s Witness, baptized in 1955. He was a member of the Prosser Congregation and loved caring for the roses and irrigation around the hall. Bill was a rose enthusiast who enjoyed his beautiful rose garden and watching for humming birds surround his trumpet vine.
Bill is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jeanne; sons, David Pleake (Katie), Mark Pleake (Carol), William Pleake (Michelle), and daughter Jodi Giles (Michael); 7 brothers and sisters; Bob, Bonnie, Bud (Larry), Betty, Benny, Bruce, and Becky; 12 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents William & Margaret; sister Barbara; and grandson Micah.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses at 330 Nunn Road in Prosser.
