Betty Jean Ammons

Betty Jean Ammons, age 87 of Union Gap, entered into rest on May 21, 2012 at Riverview Manor in Selah. She was born on January 6, 1925 in Spokane County, Washington to Harry M. and Sally Ella (Pearson) Carver.

Betty was raised and educated in Lewiston, where she graduated from high school. During World War II she worked as a welder at the shipyards in Seattle where she met her future husband, Tom Ammons. The couple were married on July 13, 1943 in Seattle. They moved to West Virginia for a short time where her husband worked in the coal mines. They then moved back to Lewsiton where she worked as a cook at 31 Café. Later, she owned and operated the Silver Dollar Café and Campbells Corner.

Betty was an awesome cook and excellent seamstress. She enjoyed playing pool, fishing with a can of corn at Winchester Lake, playing cards and ceramics. Most of all, she loved gatherings with family and friends.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Joyce Nelson and husband Jon of Union Gap; her sons,
Jim Ammons and wife Vayle of Royal, Arkansas, John Ammons and wife, Della of George, Washington and Joe Ammons and wife Nina of Ellensburg, Washington; her grandchildren,
Todd Halterman and wife, Debbie and their children, Ryan and Rachel of Kennewick; Tom Halterman and wife, Tammy of Union Gap.
